Welcome to Ohio Schipperke Rescue and Genessee New York Schipperke Rescue..
Ohio and Genessee Schipperke Rescue provides for the care and adoption of Schipperkes who have been left homeless by their previous owners. Rescue Schipperkes are, for the most part, nice Schipperkes that were sold into inappropriate homes by pet stores or irresponsible breeders. Most rescue dogs are young adults that were impulse purchases ... The former owners bought a cute puppy without doing any research into the breed, so were unprepared for the adult Schipperke temperament and activity level. They can make wonderful pets for someone who is willing to put a little extra effort and time into their training.
If you are interested in adopting a rescue dog, or would like to be put on our list of prospective adopters, please fill out our Adoption Application below and copy & paste it into an email and send it to ohioskiprescue@aol.com or kelbrischips@kelbri.com
We have some of our available rescues up on Petfinder.com and
usually have more available that are not listed yet.
Rescues can usually be seen near Columbus, Ohio most of the time, or in Rochester,
New York by prior arrangement.
We will do out-of-state adoptions. We do require a veterinary, or similar, reference.
We will ship rescues via the airlines if we feel they are very very good matches for their new homes and an appropriate flight can be found.
Feel free to E-mail
us if you have questions, would like more information about available rescue
Schipperkes, or would like us to e-mail you a copy of our Adoption Agreement.
Please note we respond to all emails, so if you do not hear back from us please
give us a call as either we did not get your email or you did not get ours.
OHIO and GENESSEE SCHIPPERKES RESCUE
We are pleased that you are interested in adopting a rescue schipperke.
The dogs accepted into the rescue program come from many places. Some are owner turn-ins with complete histories and others have come from animal control facilities that found them on the streets. They have been medically screened and neutered by a licensed veterinarian, brought up to date on vaccinations if necessary, heartworm tested and put on preventative, and microchipped for identification. Their temperament has been evaluated by someone experienced with Schipperkes. We feel that these animals will be happy, healthy companions for many years.
Since we are interested in providing the dogs with the very best permanent homes we can, we try very hard to match the particular dog's needs with those of the prospective family. In order to help us do that we evaluate each dog individually and then must have information about the adopting family. Keeping this in mind, please fill out the attached questionnaire. Your candid answers will help us match you with a homeless dog.
If we presently have a rescue schipperke that meets your needs we will have you meet that dog and let you decide if it is what you want or not. If we do not have one, you will be placed on a waiting list for a rescued Schipperke. When a dog is rescued, its temperament is evaluated, it is medically screened for good health, and lives with one of us for a period of time so that we can become better acquainted with the dog's personality. Then we attempt to match the dog with the best home we have on our list for that individual dog. You will be contacted when we feel we have a match for you and your lifestyle.
When we place a rescued dog, we do ask for a donation to our rescue fund to cover the cost of the release fee from the animal shelter, neutering, routine shots, heartworm testing and medication, and the extensive veterinary care that is occasionally required. Currently we are asking a donation of $350, depending on the age and adoptability of the dog and the vet work needed, to cover some of the above costs. If, by some chance, the adoption does not work out, we ask that you return the dog to us for replacement. The adoption fee is refundable if the dog is returned in the first three months. We have a simple one page adoption contract to fill out when you actually adopt a dog.
Please complete the attached questionnaire and return it to the rescue committee member listed below so that we may become better acquainted with you and your family. This questionnaire will help us to provide you with the best dog for you and your lifestyle.
Thank you,
OHIO and GENESSEE SCHIPPERKE RESCUE
